Biography

I am a lifetime resident of Bluefield, VA. I graduated from Bluefield College in 1991 with a B.S. degree in Business Management and another B.S. degree in Wellness and Fitness. I graduated from West Virginia University in 1998 with a M.S. degree in Health Education/Health Promotion.

I have 20 years experience in the health and fitness industry with group exercise, personal training, nutrition counseling, cardiac rehab, and senior fitness.

I am also a National Certification Specialist with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). I currently teach a variety of group exercise classes, including Zumba, spinning, step, Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Program, and BodyPump.

I have one daughter, Cathryn, who is a student at VCU, majoring in Biology.

Why did you choose health education as a career field?

I chose health education as a career field after being in the fitness industry for several years. I quickly realized that education is an area that I am very passionate about and I enjoy helping others to be as healthy as they can possibly be.

What do you love most about your job?

I most enjoy traveling and meeting such a large variety of people from so many different walks of life. Every day is challenging and rewarding...there is never a dull moment!
