Back to Balance: Recovering from Summertime Splurges
Indulging in summer fun can leave us feeling exhausted physically, mentally, and financially. Try these tips to recharge and recover:
•Ease back into a regular rhythm. Summer activities, travel, and social events can leave less space for healthy habits, such as physical activity or meditation. Start returning to those routines with small changes, like a 10-minute walk or a few minutes of deep breathing each day.
•Stay flexible—and kind. Try the “Good, Better, Best” technique, from part three of our Beyond SMART Goal Setting Series, to identify options that can help maintain progress towards healthy habits when obstacles pop up. When slips happen, practice self-compassion and view it as a learning opportunity—not a failure.
•Do a short financial reset. Identify expenses that can be paused (e.g.: subscriptions, dining out, impulse buys, etc.), and redirect that money toward repaying debts or replenishing savings. Even 2-3 weeks of mindful adjustments can make a noticeable difference.
•Focus on consistency. Predictable routines help reduce decision fatigue and stress. Small, steady habits—like a daily walk, a few minutes of quiet time, or a quick budget check—create stability that supports overall well‑being far more than big, occasional efforts.
These small shifts can help us recharge and feel more grounded to enjoy the rest of summer feeling refreshed and in control.
